How Many Sessions Are Actually Needed for Laser Hair Removal? A Clinical Guide to Realistic Results

Sick of buying laser package after numerous Laser packages & Still not seeing the results you want/need/paid for?…. Then keep trading.

Laser hair removal has become the gold standard for long-term hair reduction — but one of the most common questions clients ask is:

“How many sessions will I need to see full results?”

The answer depends on multiple physiological factors, including hair density, hormonal activity, ethnicity, age, and the technology being used. At Davi Aesthetics, we utilize the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, the most advanced and safest laser platforms on the market, FDA-cleared for all skin tones.

This guide will explain:

  • Why multiple sessions are necessary

  • What affects your treatment timeline

  • What to expect after each session

  • How our laser system optimizes your results safely and efficiently

Why Are Multiple Sessions Required?

Laser hair removal only targets hairs in the anagen (active growth) phase, which accounts for approximately 10–20% of hair follicles at any given time. The remaining hairs are either in the catagen (transitional) or telogen (resting) phases and are not responsive to laser energy.

Because of this, each session eliminates only a portion of the active follicles, which is why a series of treatments spaced appropriately is essential for full efficacy.

📌 On average, each session reduces active hair follicles by 15–20%.

⚙️ The Technology: Why Candela GentleMax Pro Plus Matters

At Davi Aesthetics, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, a dual-wavelength system combining:

Our Laser System Offers:

This technology allows us to treat all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI) with 50% greater safety and efficiency,

making it one of the most advanced and inclusive platforms available.

Average Sessions - by Area

Note: Facial + hormonal areas often require a higher number of sessions and ongoing maintenance.

What Influences the number of sessions needed?

1. Skin Tone + Laser Safety

Lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III) respond well to the Alexandrite (755 nm) laser.

Darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) require the Nd:YAG (1064 nm) laser, which penetrates deeper without targeting skin pigment.

The GentleMax Pro Plus allows us to safely and effectively treat all skin tones,

minimizing risks like burns or hyperpigmentation often associated with outdated systems.

2. Hair Texture + Color

Coarse, dark hair contains more melanin and responds faster to laser energy.

Fine or light-colored hair (blonde, red, gray) lacks sufficient pigment + is less responsive. These clients may require additional sessions or combination therapies.

3. Ethnicity

Certain ethnic groups — such as Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, or South Asian clients — tend to have denser,

coarser hair, which may respond rapidly but still require more sessions for full clearance.

| Clients of African descent often present with coarser hair on the face or neck, which can be safely treated with the Nd:YAG wavelength,

though more conservatively and with more spacing to protect the skin barrier.

4. Hormonal Health

Conditions such as PCOS, thyroid disorders, insulin resistance, or elevated androgen levels contribute to persistent or

recurring hair growth — especially in hormonal zones like the chin, areolas, abdomen, + lower back.

Even without a formal diagnosis, these areas tend to require 8–12+ sessions + occasional maintenance sessions post-series.

5. Age + Hormonal Stage

Younger clients (<25) may need more sessions due to fluctuating hormone levels.

Clients over 30 generally experience more stable results due to lower hormonal variability.

6.Treatment Consistency

Staying on schedule is critical. Sessions are typically spaced 4–6 weeks apart for body treatments, and every 4 weeks for facial areas.

Regular gaps between sessions can disrupt the anagen cycle, prolonging the total number of treatments needed.

Session-by-Session:

WHAT TO EXPECT | THE BREAKDOWN

  • Mild to moderate shedding within 10–14 days. No significant reduction yet.

  • Noticeable slowing of growth. Hair becomes finer + sparser.

  • Patchiness begins. Some areas appear hair-free while others lag behind.

  • Majority of follicles in treated areas permanently reduced. Touch-up sessions recommended annually or as needed.

Tailored Treatment Plans at Davi Aesthetics

Every client receives a personalized treatment plan that includes:

  • A mandatory 24-hour patch test to evaluate skin response

  • An in-depth consultation assessing skin type, hair characteristics, hormone profile, + medical history
